Editor's Note: This email thread demonstrates the meticulous nature of managing clients and projects on a daily basis.

The project is Flash-based website for a large Silicon Valley software company. This excerpt takes place all within a 3-day span. Production is being handled by the MV team around the clock on three shifts. Project Managers are responsible for making sure production and the client are in sync every step of the way.

MV resellers and consultants can monitor the work of their MV project manager and production team online.

Hello Kat,

Thank you and your team so much for your hard work. You guys have really done an excellent job!

I have updated the priority list below with completed items and items still outstanding. I did not see anything major in my QA, I did however add a 1a to the list (getting the top sub nav working).

1) Being able to click on other sticky notes when you already have one open. Now you have to click close before you can move to a different sticky. Kat team working on
a) SUB-NAV ON TOP: XXXXX **NEW** can we get this nav element working tonight?

2) Being able to use the top level nav to get back to the main page for a given section. "For example, I click down into the XXXXX area, then the compliance play. When I am on the compliance play page I can’t click on XXXXX XXXXX & Management on the top most nav to get back to the ESM page. It is dark in color like it is selected but I can’t click there to get back." Currently you need to click the 'X' to get to the previous window. However, we are finding most users are thinking that 'X' is to close the whole window and not just a nav tool. I think we should keep it dark to identify the page to the viewer but add in the ability to click (like the other nav elements). Kat team working on

3) Remove the "XXXXX" section from the inside cover of the playbook. Client will be providing content for the Sales overview section above the "XXXXX" box (not holding my breath we'll get this content before the 17th). DONE THE XXXXX PORTION. I ALSO SENT OVER A WORD DOC WITH CONTENT FOR THIS PAGE.

4) Create 1 working content table as an example. Source Files uploaded to: XXXXX (screen shot attached). I SEE THE TABLE ICONS BUT CAN'T FIND THE EXAMPLE.... WILL THIS GET DONE TONIGHT? (this would be the lowest on my priority list for tonight seeing it requires a new page to be developed).

------------------------------------------------ completed items --------------------------------------------

5) Add the quote to the opening scene and increase the pause by a second or 2 to give the user enough time to read the quote. DONE

6) On the "Choose XXXXX" page, change: "Competition" to read "Competitive" DONE

7) On the "Choose XXXXX" page, ONLY the "XXXXX XXXXX & Management" should be clickable for the 17th demo. The other X's should do nothing at this point. DONE

8) On the "XXXXX" landing page:

a) Overview content: DONE

Welcome to XXXXX. The XXXXX gives the field and partners background and tools you need to increase your deal size, shorten sales cycles, sell to XXXXX executives, and displace competition. XXXXX is the world leader in XXXXX spend continues to grow…a winning combination for you to exceed quota.

b) The top yellow post-it-note should read "XXXXX." DONE

9) Inside the scrolling content window, is there a way to make the content headers stand out more? possible bigger font, underline.... bolded DONE

10) Finish adding the content to the XXXXX tabs. DONE

Hi XXXXX,

For your review online: XXXXX

We worked on your priority list first. Everything is done, except for plugging in all the content. What’s missing is content for XXXXX. We will work on this today. We will also work on the edit you just sent over re: the sticky notes and top level nav.

Still doing more in-depth QA, but I wanted to give you an update. It would be good if you can review the site and let us know if you have any feedback thus far. This way we can lump all edits in one go.

Thanks,

Kat

Kat,

We had a call with the client and from that call I have created a priority list of what we need to get done by the 17th.

1) Add the quote to the opening scene and increase the pause by a second or 2 to give the user enough time to read the quote.

2) Remove the XXXXX section from the inside cover of the XXXXX. Client will be providing content for the Sales overview section above the XXXXX box (not holding my breath we'll get this content before the 17th).

3) On the XXXXX page, change: "Competition" to read "Competitive"

4) On the XXXXX page, ONLY the XXXXX should be clickable for the 17th demo. The other X's should do nothing at this point.

5) On the XXXXX landing page:

a) Overview content:

Welcome to XXXXX. The XXXXX gives the field and partners background and tools you need to increase your deal size, shorten sales cycles, sell to XXXXX executives, and displace competition. XXXXX is the world leader in XXXXX spend continues to grow…a winning combination for you to exceed quota.

b) The top yellow post-it-note should read XXXXX.

6) Inside the scrolling content window, is there a way to make the content headers stand out more? possible bigger font, underline....

7) Finish adding the content to the XXXXX tabs.

8) Create 1 working content table as an example. Source Files uploaded to: XXXXX. (screen shot attached).

I know we are running short on time so please post changes to the staging server for review. I'll be available and checking my email tonight and tomorrow night if you have any questions/comments please let me know.

Thanks,

XXXXX

Kat,

I'm very impressed! This is looking great. The transitions are nice and smooth. I do have a few things for you:

Bullet #1 from your email (too long of content) I'll check with the team and the client but I think we'll edit down that content to fit the box without having to scroll. Can you tell me about how much will need to be cut to fit the space?

Bullet #2 from your email (XXXXX tab) Sorry this was not more clear on my end, but yes, the "XXXX" content should not show in the large scrolling window (or the left nav area) but in the "XXXXX" tab as a list of links at the bottom.

Comment 1-- When clicking on a link (to a different site), a new browser window should open so the visitor does not loose there place within the flash.

Comment 2 -- I'll check with our designer but the home pages for: XXXXX should we be using the "handwriting font" for these headers to match the other white board headers. (I'll find this out tomorrow morning).

Comment 3 -- Keep it for now but, the yellow post-it-notes large view were designed and now built to scroll but none of the XXXXX content is long enough to need to scroll but seeing we have not see the content for the other sections.... leave it for now and we may consider removing the scroll if not needed.

Thanks,

XXXXX

Hi XXXXX,

Here is an update on our progress. You can view what we currently have on: XXXXX

As you can see, we used the XXXXX content you sent us as placeholders for the rest of the sections. We will replace this as soon as you give us the final copy. We also used placeholders (grey boxes) for the tables.

What we will still work on:

* Plug in the rest of the content, specifically the tabs under each category
* Fix bugs on navigation
* Fix broken and inactive links
* QA copy on the site
* Add XXXXX quote on the first page of the book

Questions for you:

* XXXXX.xls – I assume content for this goes to the page with the title “XXXXX”? If yes, content is long and will not fit on the space provided. Is it ok if we add a scroll bar to the page? This will change the approved design, so please let us know how to proceed.

* We put the “XXXXX” as part of the navigation on the left side of each section. Should we move content instead to the “XXXXX” tab at the bottom of the page?

Let me know if you find anything that needs our attention so we can fix it.

Thanks,

Kat
